My #1 method to get things done quickly and consistently. 3 steps to success. [Video included]

I applied this method to get things done for my master degree dissertation and I went through 800+ hours of research like a hot knife through butter.

This method will also help you achieve your goals and get things done. But only if you have your goals broken down to more manageable chunks, like all goals should.

The key to getting things done quickly and consistently is focus and timing. This method was developed in the 80’s by Francesco Cirillo. You break work down into category and time intervals.

Francesco called it the Pomodoro Technique referring to the tomato-shaped kitchen timer he used as a university student.

Step #1 to get things done: Choose a task

Let’s take emails as an example. I group email, Facebook messaging, LinkedIn messaging and even Whatsapp’s from my computer as email. It is one thing. Otherwise if I had to do this for each channel of email I will become overwhelmed and not do it.

Step #2 to get things done: Close some apps

I write a lot and when I write I close my email and whatsapp. Otherwise I get constant notifications and it distracts me. Close all non-related apps.

Step #3 to get things done: Set the timer

Now this is only a guide but I found these times work very well for to getting things done quickly. Set a countdown timer for 25 minutes and start the work you planned to do. You DO NOT go to get coffee during that time, you DO NOT go to the bathroom. You DO THE WORK. When the 25 minutes are done you take a 5 minute break, get coffee and go to the bathroom. Do a few of these and then take a longer break. I call each 25 minute unit of time a tomato.

I use an app called Be Focused Pro and I love it. I have done up to 16+ tomatoes on some days. Other days I may only get to 4 or 5. It does not matter, at least you got some focused work done.

Something very important

You will come to realise just how much REAL productivity you have in a day, not the amount you thought you SHOULD have. This is good. It will help you calm the hell down and be more gentle with yourself. It is not about HOW MUCH you do, it is about how much of what you do actually MATTERS.
